Alcoa Reviewing Australian Aluminum Smelter, May Halt Output
08 February 2012 - 9:55AM
Dow Jones News
Alcoa Inc. (AA) said Wednesday it is reviewing the viability of
its Point Henry aluminum smelter in Victoria state after a high
Australian dollar, weak metal prices and rising costs made it
unprofitable.
Alcoa said in a statement its aim was to keep the Point Henry
smelter in Geelong open, but it may shut down production if
profitability targets aren't met.
